NORMAN – Oklahoma women's tennis head coach Audra Cohen announced Monday the addition of Anchisa Chanta for the spring 2022 season.

"We're so excited to welcome Anchisa to our program," said Cohen. "She is a talented, hard-working player from Thailand who brings a high tennis IQ and the growth potential to become a top college player."

Chanta joins the Sooners as one of the most experienced international athletes that has signed with OU during the Cohen Era.

From Bangkok, Thailand, Chanta has a career-high singles ranking of 586 and doubles ranking of 744 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Additionally, she has a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) high of 11.52, becoming the second Sooner to join the program with a UTR above 11.44, after Dana Guzman in 2020.

"I am so happy," said Chanta. "This is a new chance for me to come from Thailand to the United States of America. I feel excited for the experience with my team and my coaches."

Chanta comes to OU with a career-high ITF ranking of 171 and ITF junior ranking of 107. She made the quarterfinals or better in three tournaments in 2021 alone and captured a $15k title in Monastir, Tunisia in Sep. 2021. Additionally, she advanced to the quarterfinals or further on four occasions in 2021, with three consecutive semi-final runs at $15k tournaments in Tunisia. She then represented Thailand on the international stage as a member of her nation's 2021 Billie Jean King Cup (formerly known as the Fed Cup) team where she went 3-0 in singles play.

Chanta will join the team in January. The spring season starts Jan. 17 against Wyoming at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
