Graduation Success Rate

OU Athletics Achieves Second Consecutive Record GSR

December 02, 2021 | Athletics

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma earned its highest student-athlete Graduation Success Rate ever, according to information released Thursday by the NCAA.

Oklahoma has achieved significant improvement in its Graduation Success Rate in the last 11 years, climbing from 71% to the record 89% figure announced Thursday (the previous record was 86%, reported last year). The NCAA's report reflects a four-year average of freshmen who enrolled in 2011-12 through 2014-15.

A record nine Oklahoma programs registered a 100% Graduation Success Rate for the reporting period: men's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, rowing, men's and women's tennis and softball.

OU athletics programs with multi-year streaks of a 100% Graduation Success Rate are women's tennis (14 years), men's tennis (13), women's gymnastics (eight years), men's gymnastics (six years), women's golf (four years), and men's golf and softball (two years each).

"The continuation of our student-athletes' academic success and how they've raised the bar is nothing short of remarkable," said OU Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione. "This is a reflection of their unyielding dedication to success in the classroom and in sport. I also appreciate our coaches' commitment to academic achievement and the importance of student-athletes earning their degree in preparation for life after college."

Notably, OU men's basketball's Graduation Success Rate of 100% shattered its previous record of 90 percent, reported in 2020. Its GSR also exceeds this year's NCAA Division I average of 87% in the sport.

Including their school-record-tying 3.19 spring 2021 semester cumulative GPA, OU student-athletes have registered a cumulative GPA above 3.00 for a record 19 consecutive semesters. That cumulative GPA reflects the overall academic performance of those student-athletes from their first semester of collegiate enrollment through the completion of the spring 2021 term.
