Around the Bases: Vol. 1

NORMAN – The Oklahoma baseball team is wrapping up fall workouts in preparation for the 2022 spring season, which begins in February. The first edition of Around the Bases, highlighting OU's newcomers, features freshman pitcher Keegan Allen, senior pitcher Trevin Michael and freshman infielder Jackson Nicklaus.

AROUND THE BASES

First Base: Keegan Allen - Fr. - RHP

Why did you choose to attend OU?
I chose OU because it is a big school but feels small, the people are awesome, it's a top-notch baseball program and a great education.

What is one thing you've learned since coming to OU?
I've learned how to manage my time.

What is a skill you want to improve on the field?
My fielding.

What is one on-field skill you worked to improve in the offseason?
Consistency and hitting spots.

What is your favorite sport besides baseball, and why?
Football. I loved to hit people, and I love the physicality of it.

Who is your favorite athlete, and why?
Nolan Ryan. He showed everyone what passion on the mound is.

Second Base: Trevin Michael - Sr. - RHP

Why did you choose to attend OU?
I wanted to go to OU since I was a kid. I thought I had the talent to help the team out and help move us to our ultimate goal: a championship.

What is one thing you've learned since coming to OU?
Everyone here is driven to win.

What is a skill you want to improve on the field?
Commanding my pitches.

What is one on-field skill you worked to improve in the offseason?
Spin rate on my pitches.

What is one unique/interesting fact about you?
I am the oldest guy on the team, and this is my sixth year in college.

What is your favorite sport besides baseball, and why?
Football. I grew up watching OU football, and now I can't get enough.

Third Base: Jackson Nicklaus - Fr. - INF

Why did you choose to attend OU?
I liked the coaches and the program. I thought we were going to win here.

What is one thing you've learned since coming to OU?
That I love it here.

What is a skill you want to improve on the field?
I want to improve on making all of my throws hit the first basemen in the chest.

What is one on-field skill you worked to improve in the offseason?
I worked very hard on trying to have a better barrel awareness and hitting the ball the other way with power.

Who is your favorite athlete, and why?
Ken Griffey Jr. I loved the way he had fun with the game and played hard.

Do you have any secret/hidden talents?
I can juggle four balls.

What is your favorite sports moment you have been a part of, or witnessed?
Allen: Winning the Cooperstown championship during 12U baseball.
Michael: Seeing Yu Darvish throw a one-hitter in person on my birthday.
Nicklaus: Being at game one of the 2015 World Series.
