NORMAN – Freshmen
Peyton Dunn and
Callie Kemohah were named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.
This is the third weekly honor for Dunn who was named the conference rookie of the week on Sept. 7 and Sept. 28. Kemohah picked up her second career honor after earning the defensive player of the week nod on Sept. 14. The five combined weekly honors are the most by any school this season.
Dunn repeated as the rookie of the week after recording a pair of double-doubles on the weekend. In Friday's 3-1 victory over K-State, Dunn tallied 48 assists with a career-best 12 digs. On Saturday, Dunn tallied 37 assists to bring her weekend total to 85, while also tallying another 12 digs. Dunn now has six double-doubles on the year. The Parker, Colo., native added eight kills on the weekend and two blocks.
Kemohah is the only freshman to have earned defensive player of the week this season and is only the second repeat winner. The Lucas, Texas, native helped lead the Sooners to their first Big 12 win of the season as she recorded 19 digs to go along with five assists on Friday. Kemohah was just shy of her career high on Saturday, tallying 27 digs in the loss to average 6.75 digs per set. Her 5.75 digs per set over the weekend led the Big 12.
Texas' Skyla Fields rounded out the weekly awards as she was named offensive player of the week.
Dunn, Kemohah and the Sooners will be back in action Friday and Saturday at TCU. Friday's 2 p.m. CT match will air on ESPNU.
