SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that Oklahoma senior guard Taylor Robertson is one of 20 players named to its watch list for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award for the third consecutive year.
Named after the first player, male or female, named to an All-America Team in four straight college seasons, the annual award in its fifth season recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
A product of McPherson, Kan., Robertson averaged 16.1 points per game during the 2020-21 season, sinking 86 3-pointers at a 43 percent clip, good for sixth and 18th, respectively, in the nation. Her 19 games with double-digit points ranked second for OU as the guard tallied 20 points or more seven times.
Robertson has put together a historic career donning the Crimson and Cream. She was the first player in Big 12 history to hit 100 or more 3s in back-to-back seasons as a freshman and sophomore and became the third player in the OU annals to reach 1,000 points in two seasons or fewer, joining all-time leading scorers Courtney Paris and Aaryn Ellenberg in that elite group.
A preseason All-Big 12 selection, Robertson is the only player in the Big 12 named to the watch list. The senior is the NCAA's active leader in 3-pointers per game (3.83), and her 43.9 percent clip also leads the nation. She enters the 2021-22 campaign 70 treys shy of the Big 12 career record set by Kansas State's Laurie Koehn and 175 away from the NCAA career record, owned by Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies in each of the three rounds. Voting will go live on Friday, Oct. 29.
In mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2022 Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. Robertson was a member of the award's top 10 list as a sophomore.
Five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers-Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee in early March.
The 2022 Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award winner will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award, the Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award and the Lisa Leslie Center Award, in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award include Ashley Owusu, Maryland (2021), Aari McDonald, Arizona (2020), Asia Durr, Louisville (2019) and Victoria Vivians, Mississippi State (2018)
Robertson and the Sooners tip off the season on Nov. 9 at South Dakota before returning to Norman on Nov. 12 for their home opener vs. Arkansas State at 10:30 a.m.
