MORGANTOWN, W.Va. ā The No. 2 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team topped conference rival West Virginia, 196.100-194.900, Friday night inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W.Va.
Senior Evy Schoepfer took home the vault title with a 9.925 while freshman Audrey Davis earned the title on bars with a 9.9. Senior Anastasia Webb earned three event titles, sharing beam and floor with sophomore Ragan Smith as they tallied 9.925s on each event. Webb also took home the all-around title with a 39.575.
Two more Sooner freshman made their collegiate debuts in the meet as Quinn Smith was inserted in the vault lineup and Norman native Bell Johnson made her debut on floor. In total, five members of the freshman class have seen action in at least one meet this season.
The Sooners started strong on bars with a 49.375 to West Virginia's 48.575 on vault. Senior Karrie Thomas led things off with a stuck landing on her double-layout dismount. OU counted all scores of 9.85 or higher as freshman Katherine LeVasseur notched a 9.850 in the No. 2 spot. Ragan Smith showcased a huge Ray for a 9.875, followed by another stellar routine and gorgeous pak salto from Webb for a matching 9.875. Davis showed that being a freshman in the anchor spot was no problem as she tallied a meet-best 9.900.
OU bounced back from Sunday's meet on vault with a 49.325 while West Virginia notched a 48.575 on bars. Davis went from anchoring bars to leading off vault with a 9.775. Junior Allie Stern did her best Yurchenko 1.5 of the season, sticking the landing for a 9.875 in the No. 2 spot. LeVasseur added a 9.9 in the No. 4 spot with her 1.5 and Webb notched a 9.850 in the No. 5 spot. Anchoring was Schoepfer with the best vault of the night as she tallied a 9.925 on her tucked Yurchenko 1.5.
Moving to floor, the Sooners tallied a 48.775 on floor after having to count a fall in the rotation. Crowd favorite Jordan Draper showed off her energetic routine for a 9.825. Schoepfer continued her strong night with a 9.850 in the No. 2 spot. After two falls, Webb showed no signs of worry as she tallied a 9.925 with her incredible choreography and gorgeous tumbling. Smith anchored with a season-best 9.925 to end the rotation on a high note thanks to her powerful tumbling.
The Sooners ended the meet on beam where they had to count a fall for a 48.625. Sophomore Jenna Dunn earned a 9.850 in the No. 3 spot, followed by a 9.775 from Davis. Making sure the meet closed out strong, Smith nailed her series and dismount for a 9.925 in the No. 5 spot. Webb kept the momentum going with a 9.925 of her own.
The Sooners will see a familiar face next week when they host West Virginia on Sunday, Jan. 31, at the LNC. The meet is slated for a 7 p.m. CT start on ESPNU.
