Sooners junior captain Lynnsie Elam launched nine home runs in 2020. The Chickasha, Okla., product led the team with nine blasts, besting fellow junior slugger Jocelyn Alo's eight homers. Elam matched her previous number of career home runs (5) in just the sixth game of 2020.Ā

OU junior All-American Jocelyn Alo finished the season on a 14-game hitting streak, dating back to a Feb. 21Ā 3-2 victory over Texas A&M at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. Alo finished her junior campaign batting .427 with eight home runs and 21 RBIs.Ā

Senior pitcher Shannon Saile registered 89 strikeouts in the abbreviated 2020 season. The right-handerĀ led the way for OU in the circle with 70.0 innings pitched and finished with a 1.80 ERA. Saile was well on her way to besting her 2019 strikeout total of 126.Ā
The Sooners registered a big early-season victory in a top-five showdown on Feb. 15 at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. OU came from behind to take down No. 4/4 Arizona in front of a sold-out home crowd of 3,006 at Hillenbrand Stadium by a score of 6-4 in 10 innings.Ā

Junior captain Nicole Mendes made her return to the diamond Feb. 28 vs. Northwestern for the first time since knee surgery in fall 2019. In just six appearances, including one start as designated player, Mendes batted .500, going 3-for-6. TwoĀ of her three hits were home runs. The two-time WCWS All-Tournament Team member drove in five runs, with her first hit of the year being a go-ahead RBI single.Ā

The Sooners went 9-1 at Marita Hynes Field in 2020, with a total attendance of 12,660 (average of 1,266 fans at each game). The strong fan support helped OU win five home games in comeback fashion and post two run-rule victories.Ā
