NORMAN – Senior Maggie Nichols and freshman Ragan Smith were named the Big 12 Gymnast and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Monday.

Nichols was named the Gymnast of the Week for a league-best fifth time this season while Smith was named Newcomer of the Week for a league-best sixth time. Nichols now has 24 career honors and 15 Gymnast of the Week honors. Smith needs just one more weekly honor to tie teammates Nichols, Anastasia Webb and Olivia Trautman for most Newcomer of the Week awards in program history.

Nichols returned to all-around competition for the first time since Jan. 20, taking home the event title by tying the second-best mark in NCAA competition this season with a 39.825. Nichols now has three all-around marks of 39.800 or higher in just five attempts. The senior took home four event titles, earning the all-around, bars, beam and floor. The Little Canada, Minn., native earned a near-perfect 9.975 on vault, a 9.950 on bars, a near-perfect 9.975 on beam and a 9.925 on floor. She now has 141 career event titles.

Smith once again had a stellar night in the all-around. The freshman posted three scores of 9.9 or higher with a 9.9 on bars, beam and floor. Smith added a career-best 9.850 on vault, besting the career high she set the week before. Smith ended with a 39.550 in the all-around, her second best mark this season and just her third time competing all-around in 2020. The freshman has now posted a 9.9 or higher on bars in nine of 10 meets this season.

The Sooners are back at home Friday for a top-five matchup with No. 5 Michigan. The meet is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start. The three members of the senior class, Jade Degouveia, Maggie Nichols and Bre Showers, will be honored in a post-meet ceremony.
