NORMAN – The No. 1-rankedĀ Oklahoma men's golf team is in second place after two rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic.Ā The Sooners are one stroke out of first play with 18 holes remainingĀ at the par-72, 6,902-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, P.R.

The Sooners posted a 270 (-18) on Monday,Ā good for theĀ fourth best round in tournament history.Ā With a two-day total of 551 (-25), the Sooners trail No. 3 Georgia Tech (550, -26) in a field that features five top-25 teams.Ā Alabama is in sole possession of third place at 561 (-15)Ā whileĀ No. 21 Clemson holds fourth with a 562 (-14).Ā

Two Sooners sit in the top five after 36-holes as seniorĀ Garett Reband andĀ sophomore Patrick WelchĀ are tied for third with two-day totals of 137 (-7).Ā Reband fired a 67 (-5) on Monday after going bogey free on the back nine and posting five birdies.Ā

Welch record a 66 (-6) in his second round – the lowest round score of his collegiate career. The sophomore posted four straight birdies on the front nine and a total of seven on the day.Ā

"Very solid day of golf for all of our guys today," OU head coachĀ Ryan HyblĀ said.Ā "Welch had his best round in college career and he really got it going early during the round. Quade (Cummins) and Garett finished strong today and that is so fun to see.Ā  We are in a great spot heading into tomorrow and our guys feel great."

Quade Cummins also went low shooting a 67 (-5). The Senior posted an eagle on the back nine to bring his total to 138 (-6), holding a tie for sixth place through 36 holes.Ā

Freshman Jake Holbrook also shares ninth place with a 139 (-5). Holbrook started his round strong quickly firing two birdies. The Granbury, Texas native went on to shot a 70 (-2) on the day.Ā

Two strokes behind Holbrook is senior Thomas Johnson, who is tied for 16th. Johnson posted a 70 (-2) during Monday's round and sits at 141 (-3) through 36 holes.

The final round will begin Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.Ā CT with a shotgun start. The Sooners will be paired with Alabama and No. 3 Georgia Tech.Ā
