NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team was slated as the No. 2 team in the preseason poll, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced Monday. The Sooners received 16 of 33 first-place votes, tied with No. 1 Florida for the most of any team.
Florida was tabbed first with 1,167 points, narrowly edging out the Sooners' 1,152 points. Rounding out the top five is No. 3 LSU (1,076 points), No. 4 Utah (1,073) and No. 5 Michigan (1,060).
This is the 11th straight season in which the Sooners have been ranked in the top five nationally to begin the year and the seventh consecutive time being ranked in the top two. OU was slated as the No. 1 team in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020, No. 2 in 2015 and 2019, No. 3 in 2014 and No. 4 in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Oklahoma has now opened 16 consecutive seasons ranked in the top 10 nationally and the last 20 years in the top 25. Since head coach K.J. Kindler's arrival in 2007, the Sooners have been ranked in the preseason top 10 every year.
Overall, eight of OU's 11 regular season opponents are ranked in the poll, including two squads in the top 10 and five within the top 25. The Sooners will host two top 10 teams at Lloyd Noble Center in 2021 with No. 4 Utah and No. 8 Denver both making the trek to Norman.
The Sooners will open the 2021 season at home against No. 21 Arizona State on Jan. 10. The following weekend will feature a top-five battle when No. 4 Utah comes to town. Also coming to Norman will be No. 32 West Virginia (Jan. 31), No. 8 Denver (Feb. 26) and No. 17 BYU (March 5).
Away from Norman, the Sooners will face No. 18 Iowa State (Feb. 13), No. 26 North Carolina State (Feb. 19) and No. 35 George Washington (Feb. 19).
Oklahoma's roster this season features 12 returning gymnasts from the 2020 squad including three who combined for seven All-America honors in senior Anastasia Webb, junior Allie Stern and sophomore Ragan Smith. In addition to the returners, the Sooners have added nine incredible newcomers Audrey Davis, Julianne Fehring, Danae Fletcher, Bell Johnson, Kat LeVasseur, Audrey Lynn, Sheridan Ramsey, Quinn Smith and Meilin Sullivan.
Season tickets for the 2021 season are currently available for purchase. Lower level tickets are $60, while upper level tickets are $40. Youth (6-18) and senior (55+) tickets are $30. Fans can purchase a max of four season tickets at a time. Single-meet tickets will go on sale the week of the first home meet. OU officials are continuing to work closely with top medical experts to ensure they are making decisions that are in the best interest of student-athletes, stakeholders and the university. At this moment, OU is anticipating the seating capacity of Lloyd Noble Center to be at approximately 25% for the 2021 season. Seating capacities are subject to change.
