November 16, 2020 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale announced Monday the signing of four players to national letters of intent. Kaley Perkins (Houston, Texas), Emma Svodoba (LaQuinta, Calif.) Kelbie Washington (Norman, Okla.) and Bre'yon White (Houston, Texas) will all join the Sooners in 2021.

"I think with this class, what you're getting is a variety of high-IQ players and a lot of competitiveness," said Coale of the signees.

Kaley PerkinsĀ / GĀ / 6-1Ā / Houston, Texas

  • 16.3 PPG
  • 5.5 RPG
  • 2.9 APG
  • 2.8 STG
  • 1.4 BPG
Ā
Kaley Perkins of Houston, Texas, is a Texas TGCA 6A All-State and All-Region selection. An all-around power, Perkins has averaged 16.3 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks per contest. She was also the Class 6A District 14 MVP and a First Team selection.

Coale on Perkins:

"Kaley Perkins is a long, tall shooter. You see her ability to do a lot of different things. She can handle the basketball in the open floor, she can size up defenders and make good decisions on delivering the basketball. One of the things I like most about her is her ability to play without the ball in her hand. She's been well-coached and has a great feel for how to get open and move off penetration when her teammates have the ball. She's a true triple threat offensive basketball player. She runs really well and has great shooting range. She's a terrific 3-point shooter. Defensively, she affects shots around the rim. She's got a knack for blocking shots, affecting shots and rebounding at the rim. She's really a very complete basketball player and a really smart basketball player that I think is going to make our team better."

Emma SvobodaĀ / F/CĀ / 6-3Ā / LaQuinta, Calif.

Emma Svoboda is a forward/center from La Quinta, Calif. While at La Quinta High School, the 6-3 Svoboda has averaged 19.9 points per game to go with 12.7 rebounds per contest. A seasoned defender, she has also accounted for 4.0 blocks per game. Svoboda led la Quinta to the CIF Southern Section Divsion 3A semifinals in 2019-20 and hit her 1,000th career point the same season. She was the Desert Empire League MVP, a Desert Empire League First Team member and a First Team All-CIF selection last season.

Coale on Svoboda:

"Emma is a true post player. Great length, great size, the ability to catch high and finish high with either hand on either side of the basket. She's an excellent shot blocker and a really good defender around the rim. She uses her length well and she also has a great sense of timing. She is just a kid that's really smart, understand basketball and is learning rapidly. She can really run and has nice quickness, and I think she's going to be able to step out and shoot from the perimeter and be a threat facing or with her back to the basket. Her size and her length are two things you cannot teach."

Kelbie WashingtonĀ / GĀ / 5-7 / Norman, Okla.Ā

  • 13.2 PPG
  • 3.8 RPG
  • 4.4 APG
  • 4.3 SPG
Ā Norman product Kelbie Washington has been a staple at Norman High. She is a two-time First Team All-COAC selection (2018 and 2020), a two-time COAC Defensive Player of the Year (2018 and 2019), a 2020 Big All-City First Team member and earned First Team All-State Tournament honors in 2019. Washington has scored 1,000 points in her prep career and averaged 13.2 per game to go with 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 4.3 steals.
Ā

Coale on Washington:

"Kelbie Washington is a kid I fell in love with watching her play as a junior high kid. I love her intensity. She's got some shooting range, she can score it, she can pass it, she can score it going to the rim. Crafty finisher, draws a lot of fouls and is a great defender. She has a change to be one of the best on the ball defenders we've ever had here. Kelbie is just intense and she loves playing defense on the ball. She's terrific off the ball as well. Great speed and great hunger to guard the basketball and defend it. The passionate, emotional way she plays the game gives her a chance to be an extraordinary leader because this kid affects the people around her. She just makes things happen and you love a kid with that kind of competitive spirit."

Bre'yon WhiteĀ / FĀ / 6-0Ā / Houston, Texas

  • 9.6 PPG
  • 8.2 RPGĀ Ā
  • 3.5 SPG
  • 1.5 BPG
Forward Bre'yon White has scored over 1,000 points and pulled down over 1,000 rebounds while at Shadow Creek High School in Houston. White has twice been named to the All-District First Team and in 2019-20, was tabbed a First Team All-Greater Houston and All-Region selection.

Coale on White:

"Bre'yon White is explosive. There are lots of things Bre can do but the one thing I continue to go back to is explosiveness. She's an explosive offensive player, she's an explosive rebounder, she's an explosive personality. Bre plays with great enthusiasm and great intensity and she's big and strong. I think for Bre, the development of her perimeter shot turns her into a player to really be reckoned with at the college level. The things she does instinctually right now. There are lots of things she can do to give defenses trouble."
