Sooners Fall Short Against Texas

January 28, 2020 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's basketball team fell to Texas 70-56 Tuesday night inside Lloyd Noble Center.

With the loss, OU moves to 10-10 on the year and 3-5 against the Big 12. Texas improves to 14-6 and 6-2 in league play.

"We had a bit of a hard time with their size and athleticism for sure," said head coach Sherri Coale. "It was really hard to keep them off the glass and they punished us with some high-low. They're just so big and strong and we didn't handle their hardness very well.

If you look at quarter by quarter, we're there every quarter except for the second. They kind of went on a little run and we panicked and were paralyzed for a bit. Other than that, I thought we answered and did some things. That's kind of the story of the night."

The Longhorns out-shot OU 44.9% to 36.2% from the field. Texas' Lashan Higgs led all players with 19 points and Madi Williams had a team-high 16 for the Sooners. Two more OU players scored in double figures as Taylor Robertson and Liz Scott scored 11 each. 11 points was a career high for Scott, who also saw a career-high 17 minutes of play.

Scott's buckets all came in the second half with eight of her points coming during the fourth quarter.

Mandy Simpson pulled down 10 boards for her fifth double-digit rebounding performance of the season. Simpson was bucket shy of a double-double as she scored eight points and added two assists.
Williams had seven rebounds and four assists on the night.
