NORMAN — Two University of Oklahoma gymnasts and Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams were selected to represent Team USA at the 2019 World Championships at the conclusion of the USA Gymnastics World Team Selection Camp Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Sooners Yul Moldauer and Allan Bower were selected as two of the six members of the U.S. team that will travel to Stuttgart, Germany, Oct. 4-13 for the championships.
Moldauer made the five-man competing squad following his fifth-place finish in the two-day all-around at the camp. Bower will serve as the traveling alternate to the team after his fourth-place finish in Colorado Springs. Williams will serve as the head coach for the Team USA contingent traveling to Germany.
"I think it was a tremendous trials," recapped Williams. "Everybody brought their A-game and it was a great competition to watch the number of hit routines overall for this group. Even though Yul struggled with his illness, he was still able to persevere through 12 routines and make the team, so I'm excited for him and his opportunity.
"We're excited to put a good team on the floor for the world championships in Stuttgart."
Bower (166.900), Moldauer (166.150) and Colin Van Wicklen (165.350) finished 4-5-6, respectively, in the two-day all-around competition at the camp. Bower had an impressive day two showing, improving on his day one total by 1.55 points to finish the day with a tally of 83.850.
On Saturday's second day of camp, Moldauer posted the highest score on floor exercise with a 14.500 routine, while Bower and Van Wicklen tied for third on the event with 14.150 scores. Van Wicklen, who tied for the best vault score on day one, tied once again with a 14.600 on day two.
Bower led the Sooners on pommel horse with a clean 14.050 routine that ranked as the second-best routine of the day. Moldauer put up the third-highest still rings routine, tallying a 14.150.
