September 18, 2019 | Athletics

The University of Oklahoma celebrates legends who have contributed to making OU Athletics the desired destination for future Sooners. Chuck Doyle is one of those legends.

The experiences during Chuck's days in Norman still hold a special place in his heart, as it was here where he met his wife of over 60 years, Mary Ellen.Ā He studied Management and Economics while Mary Ellen was a journalism major. Because of the strong impact OU had made on the Doyle's, they decided to give back to three different areas on campus that played a significant role in their lives during college: football, education and faith. “Mary Ellen and I have been taught that you want to give and pay back everything that you get,” said Chuck. “It's not all about us. It's about what you can leave for others”. Aside from their contributions to Oklahoma Football, the couple also made donations to Michael F. Price College of Business, Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications and St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Doyle's dedication to OU is recognized through his efforts to give back. He has become a vital member of many philanthropic organizations, including The Sooner Club. “There's a good feeling that you get when you give and help,” said Chuck. “It doesn't make a difference how much time or money you give, just give a little and you'll feel better for it”. Ā

As a loyal member for the past 28 years, Doyle has contributed numerous major gifts to Oklahoma Football. Doyle is recognized in various areas throughout the newly renovated football facility, including a motivational countdown clock, the Big 12 Championship Trophy Display and a College Football Playoff appearance display. His wife, Mary Ellen, has a strong passion for academics and its effects on the student-athlete experience. Her name is recognized on a touchscreen found in the Switzer Center, known as the University of Oklahoma Complete Education Display.

The commitment from Champions like Chuck Doyle has helped lay the foundation for Sooner Magic. His passion and commitment to OU runs deep in his DNA. Chuck truly exemplifies what it means to be a Champion of Magic. His legacy continues. “The lifeblood of our success in football comes from the support of Sooner Club,” Chuck explains. “You don't do anything by yourself in this life. The more people you can gather around to give support and energy, the more you feed off that and become victorious”.

Chuck and Mary Ellen reside in Texas City, Texas and continue to travel over 400 miles to attend home games at The Gaylord - Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for the past 28 years.
