Three Sooners Named to World Team Camp

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Following the conclusion of the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships Saturday evening in Kansas City, three Sooners were named to the U.S. senior men's national team World Team Selection Camp, USA Gymnastics Men's Selection Committee announced.

Following a runner-up finish yesterday in the all-around and auto-selection to the senior national team, 2019 graduate Yul Moldauer was named to the World Team Squad, along with 2017 graduates Allan Bower and Colin Van Wicklen. Of the eight invitations to the camp, three went to former Sooners.

Bower placed sixth in this weekend's all-around competition, making a big move up the rankings on Saturday's final day after being in 10th after day one.

Van Wicklen, unable to compete this weekend due to an injury sustained in warmups before Thursday's meet, successfully petitioned himself to be a member of both the 2019-20 U.S. senior men's national team and the World Team Squad.

The World Championships team selection camp will be held Sept. 5-9 in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center and will help determine the five-man competing squad plus one traveling alternate that will compete at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, October 4-13.

At last year's World Championships in Doha, Qatar, Moldauer and Van Wicklen were named to the five-man competing team while Bower was named the traveling alternate. The trio helped Team USA to a fourth-place finish in the team competition. Additionally, Moldauer placed fourth in the floor exercise event final and 12th in the all-around final. The 18-time OU All-American won a World medal in 2017 on floor exercise, taking bronze in Montreal.

With the addition of Van Wicklen to the USNT, three of the 12 spots on Team USA belong to former Sooners who still train in Norman at the Sam Viersen Gymnastics Center.
