Ross Selected for Putnam City Athletics Hall of Fame

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's basketball chief of staff Jan Ross has been selected to the inaugural class for the Putnam City Schools Athletics Hall of Fame.

Ross has spent the last 24 years on OU's staff, including 22 seasons as assistant coach. Ross has been a part of three Final Fours, four Big 12 tournament titles, six Big 12 regular season championships and 19 NCAA Tournament appearances with the Sooners.

In past seasons, Ross monitored the academic progress of each student-athlete. As a team, the Sooners have posted a team GPA of 3.0 or better for 39 of the 46 semesters she has been at OU and have had four student-athletes earn Academic All-America first team honors under Ross' watch. Oklahoma has produced 129 Academic All-Big 12 selections in 23 seasons.

During her time at Putnam City West High Schools, Ross was named The Oklahoman's All-City Guard of the Year in 1982, when girls' high school basketball in Oklahoma was 6-on-6.

As a player at Oklahoma Christian, she collected numerous playing and academic honors including NAIA honorable mention All-America, All-District IV and All-Sooner Athletic Conference selection as a senior. She also was an NAIA Scholar Athlete and was elected to Who's Who.

Among those joining Ross in the 11-member class of the Putnam City Schools Athletics Hall of Fame are Sam Bradford (2008 Heishman Trophy Winner), Steve Largent (Pro Football Hall of Famer) and Bob Shirley (Major League Baseball).

The induction ceremony will take place on Aug. 30 at Victory Church.
