OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma baseball team fell to TCU 15-3 Thursday in the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Sooners end the regular season and Big 12 Championship with a 33-23 overall record. Left fielder Blake Brewster went 2-for-2 and scored a run while center fielder Tanner Tredaway and first baseman Tyler Hardman each singled and scored a run. Nathan Wiles (8-4) took the loss and Charles King (5-3) earned the win for the Horned Frogs which improved to 30-25.

“We started off really good and had a good tempo,” Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. “Hats off to TCU for taking advantage of some balls that were up. They found some holes and we made an error and misread a ball in center field. When you do those things, you lose the momentum of an inning and it can spiral out of control, which it did.”

Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Conor McKenna, which followed singles by Hardman and right fielder Brady Harlan. OU added two more runs in the seventh inning when Justin Mitchell drew a pinch-hit bases-loaded walk and another run scored on fielding error.

TCU scored 14 runs in the fourth inning, taking advantage of 11 hits and two errors, including three home runs and two triples. The Frogs added a run on a groundout in the fifth inning. Left fielder Josh Watson and catcher Zach Humphreys each recorded four RBIs for TCU.

The Sooners now await their NCAA postseason fate. The selection show will be televised at 11 a.m. Monday on ESPNU.

“Our first season was the regular season, our second season is the Big 12. If we're truly the Big 12 and we're truly the number two conference in the country, then we'll get in,” Johnson said. “Our pitching staff can match up with a lot of people. When you start seeing people that you haven't seen all year long, it's a lot different. Our conference is really good from one to nine.”
