Sooners Have Solid Showing in San Diego

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma rowing team continued its spring season in San Diego this weekend at the 46th annual Crew Classic on Mission Bay.
The Sooners were impressive in their second regatta of the spring, collecting one victory and four top-five finishes in finals' races on Sunday.
OU began its weekend of competition on Saturday, competing in varsity eight, varsity four and novice eight preliminary action.
Both the first novice eight and first varsity four boats advanced to Sunday's grand finals, while the first and second varsity eight boats qualified for petite finals.
Beginning OU's finals day on Sunday, the 1V4 took third in the Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup Grand Final. The Sooners 1V4 crossed the line in 7:19.52 to take third place in a field that included Washington, Stanford, Texas, California and UCLA.
Oklahoma's novice eight squad, racing in the collegiate novice Laurel Korholz Perpetual Trophy grand final, placed fourth with a time of 7:28.29.
Next on the water was OU's second varsity eight, claiming the win in the collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy petite final. The 2V8 finished in 6:58.94 to top Sacramento State, San Diego State, Gonzaga, Tennessee and Loyola Marymount.
In the first varsity eight Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational final, OU's 1V8 recorded a third-place finish, crossing the line in a time of 6:56.56.
The Sooners' 2V4 boat concluded OU's weekend at the Crew Classic with a third-place finish in the collegiate 4+ B finals. OU posted a time of 8:23.07 in a field with Washington State, UCLA, Tennessee, SDSU, San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.
Up next, Oklahoma rowing takes a week off after two straight weekends of competition. The Sooners return to the water April 19-20 in Clemson, S.C. for the Clemson Invitational.
