OU Takes Texas Tech to the Wire

LAWRENCE, Kan. – A comeback effort came up just short Friday as the No. 29 Oklahoma women's tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 26 Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship quarterfinal.

OU (16-8, 5-5 Big 12) gave up the doubles point, but rallied in singles to tie the match at 3-all, but the Red Raiders came out on top. Oleksandra Korashvili, Martina Capurro and Camila Romero all picked up singles wins in the contest.

No. 31 Korashvili took out No. 18 Felicity Maltby 7-5, 6-4 at the top spot for her fourth win over a top-25 opponent this season. The first set saw ties at every game up to 5-all before Korashvili took the next two games. The Sooner led the entire second set.

Capurro recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nell Miller on court two, good for her first career shut out.

Romero tallied a 7-6 (4), 6-1 victory over Kennedy Bridgforth on court three. Romero battled through a tight first set to come out on top of a tiebreaker, then carried her momentum to into the second set to allow Bridgforth just one game.

On court four, Asghar dropped a tight match to Anto Stoica 7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-4. Motosono fell to Olivia Peet 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 5 line. Corley was defeated by Lana Rush 6-4, 6-2 on court six.

In doubles, Asghar and Korashvili fell to Miller and Rush 6-2 at the top spot. On court three, Corley and Motosono were defeated by Bridgforth and Reagan Collins 6-3. When play was halted, Capurro and Romero trailed Maltby and Peet 5-3 on court two.

The Sooners await their NCAA fate. Selections will be made April 29 with the first and second rounds of the tournament held May 3-5 at campus sites.
