MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 19th-ranked Oklahoma baseball team dropped a 12-4 decision at West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Monongalia County Ballpark, as the Mountaineers evened the Big 12 conference series at one game apiece.

Center fielder Brady Harlan went 3-for-3 with a walk and third baseman Brylie Ware went 2-for-4 with a home run for the Sooners (22-6, 4-1 Big 12). Junior Nathan Wiles (5-1) pitched at least six innings for the sixth time in seven starts this season. He struck out six, walked none and allowed four runs in 6.2 frames, taking his first loss of the season. It was also OU's first Saturday defeat this year.

Oklahoma tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth, but the Mountaineers (15-11, 1-4 Big 12) took a 4-3 lead in the seventh and scored eight runs in the eighth inning to extend their lead to 12-3. Tristen Hudson (1-0) allowed no runs in 1.2 relief innings to earn the win for WVU.

The series rubber game is scheduled for noon CT Sunday.

“I thought Nate battled all day long,” Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. “We can't leave that many guys on base. We just have to execute when we get men in scoring position. If we had taken the lead early, it could have made a big difference in the game.”

Trailing 3-0, Oklahoma scored a run in the top of the fifth on Brylie Ware's third home run of the season. His leadoff shot went all the way out of the ballpark to left field and onto the passing road to cut it to 3-1. The Sooners tied the game in the sixth on an RBI groundout by left fielder Diego Muniz and an infield single by shortstop Brandon Zaragoza. OU left eight runners on base in the first four innings and left 12 runners in the game.

Ware drew a walk to lead off the ninth inning and scored on an RBI groundout by catcher Brady Lindsly to make the score 12-4.

West Virginia took a 3-0 lead with single runs in the first, third and fourth innings. First baseman Marques Inman singled in a run in the first, center fielder Brandon White doubled in a run in the third and catcher Paul McIntosh hit a solo home run in the fourth.

The Mountaineers retook the lead with a run in the seventh inning on a two-out single by second baseman Tyler Doanes that made the score 4-3. WVU added eight runs in the eighth inning on four hits and five walks to make the score 12-3.
