NORMAN — As the No. 1 ranked OU men's gymnastics team prepares for Saturday's meet against No. 10 Navy, three current or former Sooners will be prepping for international competition as part of Team USA.
Beginning Thursday, 2017 Oklahoma graduate Colin Van Wicklen will compete in Azerbaijan at the 2019 FIG World Cup in Baku. Van Wicklen is expected to compete on floor exercise, vault, parallel bars and high bar throughout the four-day meet which runs Thursday, March 14-Sunday, March 17. The 12-time NCAA All-American recently took gold on vault and silver on high bar at the 2019 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas.
Current OU senior co-captain Genki Suzuki is assigned to the University of Calgary International Cup in Calgary, Canada, March 15-16. Suzuki will compete alongside three fellow U.S. National Team members at the international meet which begins Friday at 6:40 p.m. CT with the team and all-around finals. Saturday's action will consist of the individual event finals and will start at 6 p.m. CT. The event will offer live scoring on SportzSoft.com.
Additionally, 2017 Sooners grad Allan Bower will compete internationally at the 2019 Birmingham World Cup in Birmingham, Great Britain, on March 23. Current OU assistant coach Chris Brooks will be representing the U.S. as Bower's coach at the World Cup event.
This weekend's World Cup in Baku will be streamed online at NBCSports.com and OlympicChannel.com at 3 a.m. CT for the first day of competition. The second day will be broadcast on the Olympic Channel at 4:30 p.m. CT. Saturday and Sunday's action will be available on the Olympic Channel at 3 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. CT, respectively. A rearing will be shown on NBCSN on Monday, March 18 at 11 p.m.
