THE REMATCH
On Sunday, the Sooners and Bruins will face off in one of the most anticipated meets of the 2019 season. The two teams are facing off in a rematch of the 2018 NCAA Championship which saw the Sooners finish as the runner-up to the Bruins by the closest margin in NCAA Championships history. Just .0375 separated the two teams as it came down to a perfect 10 on beam from UCLA's Peng-Peng Lee to seal the win for the Bruins. The top-two showdown will air live on ESPN at noon CT with Bart Conner and Kathy Johnson Clarke on the call and Holly Rowe on sideline. This is the second consecutive season that the meet between OU and UCLA will air on ESPN.
LET'S REWIND
Last year's regular season meet between OU and UCLA was one of epic proportions as both teams surpassed the 198 mark and combined for six perfect scores. Brenna Dowell got the 10s flying with her perfect score on vault. With a 10 on beam from Peng-Peng Lee, the two teams were tied heading to the final rotation. OU used a program-best 49.775 on beam and perfect scores from Maggie Nichols and Anastasia Webb to edge out UCLA, which earned 10.0s from Felicia Hano and Katelyn Ohashi on floor.
OU set a program record for most perfect scores in a meet with three and Webb became just the third freshman in program history to earn a perfect 10. The Sooners also had two athletes score a perfect 10 on the same event for just the second time ever.
TEN POINT “O”
Freshman Olivia Trautman became the fourth freshman in program history to earn a perfect 10 on Feb. 15. Trautman was the final routine of the night and put an exclamation point on the Sooners' win as she performed a flawless floor routine to earn her first perfect score. She joined teammates Brenna Dowell (bars), Maggie Nichols (vault, beam, floor, bars) and Anastasia Webb (beam) as the only Sooners to earn a perfect 10 in their freshman campaigns. Trautman is the third gymnast in 2019 to earn a perfect 10 on floor (Katelyn Ohashi, UCLA; Lynzee Brown, Denver) and the third OU gymnast to record a perfect 10 this season (Maggie Nichols, vault; Nicole Lehrmann, bars).
TOP TOTALS
Of the nation's top totals this season, the Sooners hold the top three scores and have five scores in the top 10. OU is the only team to hit the 198 mark in three meets, holding the top spot with a 198.325 (Feb. 1), the No. 2 spot with a 198.075 (Feb. 15) and the No. 3 spot 198.050 (Jan. 5). OU also holds the No. 7 spot with a 197.975 and the No. 10 spot with a 197.825. Only two other schools are represented in the top 10 as UCLA has three of the top scores and Florida has two.
NQS BREAKDOWN
The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the eighth consecutive week with a national qualifying score (NQS) of 197.925. This week marks the first time this season that rankings have been determined by national qualifying scores (NQS). NQS is based on a team's six best regular season scores, three of which must be away. The overall high score is eliminated, and the five remaining scores are averaged. NQS scores are used to determine seeding for NCAA regional competition at six campus sites on April 4-6. Additionally, the Sooners rank in the top three on all four events, including the top spot on vault with a 49.505 NQS. OU ranks second on bars (49.500) and beam (49.430) and third on floor (49.485).
THE ROAD TO FORT WORTH RUNS THROUGH NORMAN
The Sooners have arguably the toughest home schedule in the nation in 2019 with 2018 NCAA Championships teams Alabama, Florida, Georgia and UCLA making the trek to Norman. Along with Oklahoma, the five teams have combined to win the last 23 NCAA Championships. Florida, Oklahoma and UCLA have combined to win the last five.
CLOUD 9.9
The Sooners have posted 92 scores of 9.9 or better during the first three meets of the year. With 190 routines under their belts, that means that 50 percent of the routines competed have scored at least a 9.9. The Sooners have put up double-digit scores of 9.9 or better in six of seven meets, tallying 17 against Florida, 14 at the Perfect 10 Challenge, 13 at the Metroplex Challenge, 12 against Arkansas and 10 each against Georgia and UNC.
CLUB 197
The Sooners have posted a score of at least 197 or higher in 52 of their last 53 meets. Currently, the Sooners' streak is at 17 meets with a score of at least 197, and 10 of those meets have featured a score of at least a 198. The Sooners are one of just four teams that have scored a 197 or better in every meet (Utah, UCLA, Florida).
TO 198 AND BEYOND
With a 198.050 in its opening meet, the Sooners became the only team in NCAA history to break 198 in the first meet of the year. OU added a second score of 198 or better with a 198.325 on Feb. 1, the highest score in the nation thus far. OU also tallied a 198.075 on Feb. 15. The Sooners now have 21 marks of 198 or better since the 2016 season and 28 overall. No other school has more than 18 in its program history. In 2018, OU set the NCAA record with 10 scores of 198 or better in a single season.
