Murcer Wins Big 12 Freshman of the Week

NORMAN – Oklahoma guard Jessi Murcer was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, the league office announced.

The honor was the first Big 12 weekly award for Murcer. She is the second Sooner to win Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining teammate Taylor Robertson who has won the award four times.

Murcer averaged 14.0 points per game last week against Iowa State and West Virginia. The Moore, Okla., native provided 14 points in OU's 80-69 road win at West Virginia on Saturday. Murcer also recorded a career-high nine rebounds and matched her season high with five assists in 40 minutes against the Mountaineers.

Against Iowa State, Murcer recorded 14 points and was 6-of-9 from the field against the Cyclones. The freshman hit two 3-pointers versus the Cyclones and added two assists.

Murcer is averaging 9.2 points per game this season and has started the last 10 games for the Sooners. She leads all Big 12 guards with a .512 field goal percentage this season.

In Big 12 play, she is averaging 8.7 points on .495 field goal and .405 3-point shooting.
