TAMPA, Fla. – The Oklahoma women's tennis team routed USF 4-1 Sunday to cap off their Florida road trip with a win.
The Sooners (6-3) won the doubles point, then picked up singles wins from No. 60 Oleksandra Korashvili, Jasmine Asghar and Skyler Miller to close out the match.
"Each match different players on this team are stepping up and having shining moments and I think the team is learning that we can win at every spot if we play fearlessly," said head coach Audra Cohen.
In doubles, Camila Romero and Martina Capurro got things rolling with a 6-2 win over Alexandria Mjos and Ana Roman on court two.
Asghar and Ivana Corley fell to Amelie Boy and Nicole Dzenga 6-3 at the top spot, leaving the point to be decided on court three.
There, Korashvili and freshman Kianah Motosono held on to defeat Evelyne Tiron and Selin Yaylali 7-5 and clinch the opening point for the Sooners.
No. 60 Korashvili made quick work of Tiron on court two, giving up just two games to win 6-1, 6-1.
Asghar pushed OU's lead to 3-0 when she took down Boy 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 line.
On court six, Skyler Miller claimed the victory for the Sooners with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Janvhi Clark, good for her first win this season.
"Skyler was clutch today," said Cohen. "She stuck to the game plan and stepped up on all of the big points."
Romero fell to Laura Pellicer Perello on court four, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
When play was abandoned, Motosono trailed Dzenga 4-0 in the second set after dropping a tight first frame 7-6 (5).
Up Next
OU returns to Norman for a five-match homestand beginning with Purdue and UMKC on March 3. The Sooners will host in-state rival Tulsa on March 8, followed by Gonzaga on March 9, then open Big 12 play with Kansas State (March 15) and Kansas (March 17).
