NORMAN – The defending national champion Oklahoma women's gymnastics team was tabbed as the No. 1 team in the preseason coaches poll, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association announced Monday. The Sooners received 36 of 51 first place votes for 1,813 points.

LSU earned the No. 2 ranking with 1755 points and 11 first place votes. Florida came in at No. 3 (1,680 points) with No. 4 UCLA (1,671 points) and No. 5 Utah (1,559) rounding out the top five teams.

This is the 10th straight year the Sooners have been ranked in the top five nationally to begin the season and sixth consecutive time being ranked in the top two. OU was slated No. 1 in 2016, 2017 and 2018, No. 2 in 2015 and 2019, No. 3 in 2014 and No. 4 in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

"It's simply an estimation," head coach K.J. Kindler said. "There is an entire season ahead. Our intention is to continue to prepare well, create depth across the board and stay strong as we approach January."

Oklahoma has now opened 15 consecutive seasons ranked in the top 10 nationally and the last 19 years in the top 25. Since Kindler's arrival, the Sooners have been ranked in the preseason top 10 every season.

Overall, 12 of OU's 13 regular season opponents are ranked in the poll, including six squads in the top 10 nationally and 11 within the top 25. The Sooners will host two top-10 teams at Lloyd Noble Center in 2020 with No. 6 Michigan and No. 7 Denver both making the trek to Norman.

The Sooners will open the 2020 season at the Collegiate Challenge in Anaheim, Calif., where they will face No. 4 UCLA, No. 9 California and No. 22 Stanford. The home slate opens on Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m. CT. against No. 19 Arkansas at Lloyd Noble Center. Also coming to Norman will be No. 20 Iowa State (Jan. 31), No. 30 West Virginia (Feb. 14) and TWU (Feb. 14).

Away from Norman, the Sooners will face No. 8 Georgia, No. 10 Alabama, No. 14 Minnesota and No. 21 Arizona State.

OU's roster this season includes 11 returners from the 2019 NCAA Championship squad, including six gymnasts who combined for 11 All-America honors in seniors Jade Degouveia and Maggie Nichols, juniors Karrie Thomas, Anastasia Webb and Carly Woodard and sophomore Olivia Trautman. Nichols returns as the two-time defending all-around champion. In addition to the returners, the Sooners have added newcomers Vanessa Deniz, Jenna Dunn, Erin Hutchison, Ragan Smith and Brooke Weins.

Season tickets for the 2020 season are currently available for purchase. Tickets are available for $40 for general admission and $60 for reserved seating, which will reserve a seat location for the entire season. Youth (6-18) and senior (55+) season tickets will be $30.
