Sooners Downed in Second Day of Match Play

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's golf team fell to Oklahoma State, 3-2-1, in its lone match at the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The three-day event is taking place at the par-71, 7,007-yard Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.

The Big 12 is the first conference to create its own match play tournament, taking advantage of the format that is used to determine the NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The event is being played on three days consisting of pool play for five sessions (Friday through Sunday morning) followed by a championship round set for Sunday afternoon.

The No. 2 seeded Sooners picked up a win from sophomore Patrick Welch over Oklahoma State's Ferdinand Muller, 2&1. Welch grabbed an early lead by winning two of the first four holes. Welch continued his run only losing one hole in the remainder of the match.

Fellow sophomore Logan McAllister won his match against Oklahoma State's Aman Gupta. McAllister earned the win in a back and forth match that ended 2&1.

Through three matches, OU boasts a 0-0-3 record at the event. OU received a bye for the afternoon session.

OU will wrap up pool play on Sunday against Baylor at 8 a.m. CT. The Sooners will then play their final match after the conclusion of pool play.
