NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's golf team fell to Oklahoma State, 3-2-1, in its lone match at the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The three-day event is taking place at the par-71, 7,007-yard Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.

The Big 12 is the first conference to create its own match play tournament, taking advantage of the format that is used to determine the NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The event is being played on three days consisting of pool play for five sessions (Friday through Sunday morning) followed by a championship round set for Sunday afternoon.

The No. 2 seeded Sooners picked up a win from sophomore Patrick WelchĀ over Oklahoma State's FerdinandĀ Muller, 2&1. WelchĀ grabbed an early lead by winning twoĀ of the first fourĀ holes. Welch continued his run only losing one hole in the remainder of the match.Ā 

Fellow sophomoreĀ Logan McAllister wonĀ his match against Oklahoma State's AmanĀ Gupta. McAllister earned the win in a back and forth match that ended 2&1.Ā 

Through three matches, OU boasts a 0-0-3Ā record at the event.Ā OU received a bye for the afternoon session.

OU will wrap up pool play on Sunday against Baylor at 8 a.m. CT. The Sooners will then play their final match after the conclusion of pool play.
