NORMAN — Oklahoma men's gymnastics senior Genki Suzuki was named NCAA and MPSF Gymnast of the Week Tuesday afternoon, the NCAA and MPSF conference announced.
“I think the honor is well-deserved,” said Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams. “Genki came out confident and really had no weaknesses on any events this past weekend. It was fun to watch. He was comfortable and made each routine
Suzuki, the senior co-captain, claimed the all-around title at the Sooners home opener on Saturday against Air Force and Arizona State, tallying a career-best 83.600. The score ranks as the top all-around score of the 2019 season. The all-around title marked the second of Suzuki's Sooner career, his other coming against California last season.
Additionally, Suzuki helped the Sooners claim the top team score of the season (418.550) by leading the team on both pommel horse and parallel bars, scoring 13.700 and 13.950, respectively.

The Sooners continue their homestand on Saturday against No. 9 Ohio State at McCasland Field House. The meet will serve as Military Night and also a celebration of the team's 2018 national championship. Tickets can be found here.
