NORMAN – For the 55th time since the start of the 2015 season, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is the No. 1 team in the nation.
The Sooners currently boast an average of 197.625 through three weeks of competition. There was no change in the top five this week as UCLA remained in second with a 197.475 and Florida held onto third with a 197.400 average. Utah (197.192) and LSU (196.825) round out the top five.
The Sooners also hold the top mark on three of four events. OU is ranked No. 1 on vault (49.433 average), bars (49.467) and beam (49.492) and ranked fourth on floor (49.233).
Nine Sooners hold 23 individual national rankings, with an OU gymnast ranked in the top five on every event and the all-around. Junior Maggie Nichols holds the top spot in the all-around with a 39.700 average, while senior Brenna Dowell moved into fifth with a 39.587. Sophomore Anastasia Webb is seventh with a 39.500. OU is the only school with at least three athletes ranked in the top 10 in the all-around.
Five athletes are ranked on vault, led by Nichols, who is tied for second with a 9.950 average and junior Jade Degouveia who is tied for fourth with a 9.925 average. Dowell is also in the top 10 as she sits in eighth with a 9.892 average. Senior Nicole Lehrmann is tied for 13th with an average score of 9.875 and freshman Allie Stern is tied for 21st (9.850).
On bars, five Sooners are ranked as Nichols shares fourth with a 9.925 average and Lehrmann sits in a tie for sixth (9.917). Dowell and sophomore Karrie Thomas are just outside the top 10, tied for 11th with a 9.90 average. Webb is tied for 21st with a 9.875 average.
Webb holds the No. 2 spot on beam (9.933) with Nichols tied for third (9.925). Dowell is tied for eighth (9.900) and junior Bre Showers ranks 13th (9.875). Lehrmann and freshman Olivia Trautman round out the six Sooners ranked on beam as the pair are tied for 24th (9.867).
Trautman is ranked second on floor with a 9.950 average. Nichols comes in at No. 13 (9.9) and Dowell is tied for 18th (9.892). Webb is tied for 25th with a 9.875 average.
The Sooners will be on the road at the Metroplex Challenge Saturday, Jan. 26. The quad meet will feature Arkansas, Denver and Missouri along with the Sooners. The meet is slated for a 7:30 p.m. CT start at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
