ROAD WARRIORS
The Sooners are back on the road for the second of three away meets in the month of January. In the first and only tri-meet of the season, OU will face host North Carolina along with Ball State. On Saturday, the Sooners will look to build upon their 75-11 all-time true road record under 13th-year head coach K.J. Kindler. OU has won 15 of its last 16 meets on the road, dating back to 2016.
TOP OF THE CLASS
Through two weeks of competition, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is holding steady in the top spot. After posting the best score in the nation the past two weeks, the Sooners are averaging a 197.938. UCLA remained in second with a 197.475 average, followed by Florida, which opened its season with a 197.300. Utah (197.213) and LSU (196.525) round out the top five.
The Sooners also hold the top mark on three of four events. OU is ranked No. 1 on vault (49.563 average), bars (49.500) and beam (49.450) and ranked third on floor (49.425).
CLOUD 9.9
The Sooners have posted 22 scores of 9.9 or better during the first two meets of the year. With 48 routines under their belts, that means that 45 percent of the routines competed have scored at least a 9.9. The Sooners have put up double-digit scores of 9.9 or better in each of their first two meets, tallying 12 against Arkansas and 10 against Georgia. Of schools currently ranked in the top five, UCLA has 16 such scores, Utah has 12, LSU has 11 and Florida has 7. Only UCLA has had a meet with double-digit 9.9s, with 10 in their Jan. 12 meet.
CLUB 197
The Sooners have posted a score of at least 197 or higher in 46 of their last 47 meets. Currently, the Sooners' streak is at 11 meets with a score of at least 197, and eight of those meets have featured a score of at least a 198. The Sooners are one of just three teams who tallied at least a 197 during opening weekend, joining UCLA (197.250) and Utah (197.175).
TO 198 AND BEYOND
With a 198.050 in its opening meet, the Sooners became the only team in NCAA history to break 198 in the first meet of the year. The Sooners now have 19 marks of 198 or better since the 2016 season and 26 overall. No other school has more than 17 in its program history. In 2018, OU set the NCAA record with 10 scores of 198 or better in a single season.
KEEP STREAKING
The Sooners now hold the record for consecutive meets with at least a 196.00 with 107 such meets, dating all the way back to Jan. 21, 2012. With its 197.825 victory over Georgia on Jan. 11, OU broke a tie with Florida for the longest streak (2/12/10-4/15-17). To put the streak in perspective, only five schools have had a streak of 36 or more, and the next longest active streak is LSU at 45.
VAULTING TO THE TOP
On Jan. 11, the Sooners became the first team in the NCAA to field a lineup of six 10.0 start value vaults since the devaluation of the Yurchenko full. All six athletes competed a Yurchenko 1.5, putting up a 49.500 as a team. This was the eighth time since the beginning of last season that OU has scored a 49.5 on vault. The rest of the country only has seven total scores of 49.5 or better on the apparatus.
CONFERENCE HONORS
Junior Jade Degouveia and freshman Olivia Trautman went back-to-back, earning Big 12 weekly honors for the second consecutive week. Degouveia was named the Big 12 Event Specialist for the second time in her career after tying her career high on vault and setting her career high on floor.
