NORMAN – Oklahoma senior Yul Moldauer and graduates Allan Bower and Colin Van Wicklen head to Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend to participate in the World Team Selection Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Moldauer and Bower claimed silver and bronze, respectively, in the all-around at last month's U.S. Championships in Boston. Van Wicklen took eighth. Along with being named to the U.S. men's senior national team, the three were selected to the 2018 World Team squad. The eight-man squad will compete this weekend for five spots to represent the U.S. at the 2018 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, Oct. 25-Nov. 4.
“I think our guys did a great job at the U.S. Championships, where Yul and Allan were second and third in the all-around, to set themselves up for this opportunity,” OU head coach Mark Williams said. “They'd like to go into this competition hoping they can keep that consistency and show that they deserve to represent the U.S. in Qatar at the World meet in late October, so we're hoping for good results.”
The four-day camp will include a two-day competition Thursday and Saturday before the selections will be determined at the end of the weekend. The camp will be available to watch via livestream Thursday beginning at 12 p.m. CT and Saturday at 4:30 p.m. CT on the USA Gymnastics YouTube Channel.
The 2018 World Championships in Doha provide the first opportunity for countries to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The three countries that medal in the team competition advance to the 2020 Olympics.
