FIRST PITCH

The Oklahoma baseball team hits the road for a weekend for the first time since opening weekend. The Sooners' third Big 12 weekend of the season sends them to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU. Game on is set for Friday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. Voice of the Sooners Toby Rowland will call the series across the Sooner Sports Network, which will air locally on Sportstalk 99.3 FM/1400 AM. He is joined on the broadcast by former Sooner Ross Hubbard (color analyst). The games can also be streamed online at Sportstalk1400.com or on the TuneIn mobile app. Saturday's game will be televised nationally on ESPNU and can be streamed on the WatchESPN app and website. Richard Cross (pbp) and Kyle Peterson (color) will have the call. Sunday's series finale will be broadcast locally on FOX Sports Southwest.

ABOUT THE SOONERS

Oklahoma won its fifth series in a row, swept back-to-back Big 12 series for the first time since 2006 and is 21-10 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in league play. The Sooners are coming off a 5-2 win at Oral Roberts; their first over the Golden Eagles on the road since 2013. At the top of the OU rotation, junior right-hander Jake Irvin is 5-0 with a 2.27 earned run average and a .165 batting average against. Sophomore catcher Brady Lindsly is the Sooners' top hitter at .354 with 10 doubles and 20 RBI. Junior right fielder Steele Walker is hitting .321 with three home runs, 22 runs and 21 RBI. Junior left fielder Cade Harris is hitting .308 with a team-leading 33 runs and 13 doubles to go with five stolen bases. Oklahoma's bullpen has combined for nine saves, led by junior RHP Connor Berry's five. Sooner relievers are averaging 11.18 strikeouts per nine innings as a unit. Junior righty Austin Hansen has struck out 29 in 19.1 innings across 16 appearances with a 2-2 record, 0.93 ERA and two saves.

SPRING CLEANING

Oklahoma brought out the brooms on back-to-back weekends to start conference play with sweeps of West Virginia and Baylor. The Sooners swept back-to-back three-game conference series since beating Missouri and winning at Texas Tech in 2006. OU moved to 6-0 in the Big 12 for the first time in the 22-year history of the league and 6-0 to start conference play since an 8-0 start in 1984 in the Big Eight. The Sooners last swept back-to-back three-game series to start conference play in 1974 with Big Eight wins over Kansas and at Nebraska.

REACHING THE CHARTS

Oklahoma became ranked for the first time in 2018 peaking at No. 19 in the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball News (4/2) polls. The Sooners were last ranked No. 23 by D1Baseball.com and No. 24 by BA on May 22, 2017 entering the Big 12 Championship. Oklahoma was ranked for 11 weeks, consecutively, in 2017, including five weeks in all five polls. OU is ranked in every poll entering this week for the first time since May 15, 2017. Last season, the Sooners peaked at No. 9 by Baseball America (4/3/17) following a series win over No. 2 Texas Tech. Oklahoma went 22-19 as a ranked team last season.

MLB OPENING DAY STARTERS

Brewers RHP Chase Anderson (2008-09), Rockies RHP Jon Gray (2012-13) and Angels RHP Garrett Richards (2007-09) represented the Sooners as MLB opening day starters for their respective teams. The University of Oklahoma is the first college to have three alumni start at pitcher on MLB's opening day in recorded history. OU pitchers have combined for five opening day starts in the last three years, the longest in that period and tied for the most with Vanderbilt (David Price-3, Sonny Gray-2) since 2014.

BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Jake Irvin was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week (4/2) after a career-high eight innings to beat Baylor (3/29). He faced the minimum through five; erasing the first two baserunners of the night on double plays Irvin id not allow a hit until there were two gone in the sixth. He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts. It was the second weekly Big 12 honor of his career; previously earning the same award following an opening day win over No. 17 Long Beach State (2/17/17).

SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS

TCU enters the weekend on a four-game skid. The Horned Frogs currently hold a 14-11 record overall and own a 3-3 mark in conference action. Michael Landestoy leads the way for the Horned Frogs' lineup batting .337 with 18 RBI.  Luken Baker owns a .279 batting average with six home runs, 17 RBI and a .512 slugging percentage. A.J. Balta, an Oregon transfer, has swiped a team-high 10 bags already this season, a mark that currently ranks fifth in the Big 12. On the hill, Jared Janczak is 1-1 overall with a 3.07 ERA in seven starts. The righty has struck out 41 batters in a team-high 41.0 innings, while holding opponents to a .238 batting average.

ALL-TIME VS. TCU

Overall, the Sooners lead the series 59-33 vs. the Horned Frogs, who have a 9-6 advantage in league games since joining the Big 12 in 2013. Since 2012, 13 of 20 games have been decided by two runs or less, including two extra-inning games. Oklahoma hosted TCU at the 2006 Norman Regional. The Horned Frogs opened with a 6-5 win over the Sooners before OU eliminated TCU, 15-6, on the way to advancing to the Houston Super Regional.

LAST TIME THEY MET

In their fourth meeting of the season, Oklahoma fell to TCU, 9-4. The loss eliminated the Sooners from the Big 12 Tournament.  In the regular season, the Sooners took two of three from the Horned Frogs.  The series included Sooner walk-offs on consecutive days.  Both walk-offs came thanks to clutch hitting by seniors, Renae Martinez (walk-off HR) and Austin O'Brien who delivered the walk-off hit to clinch the series. The series victory, marked the first time since 2013 that Sooners had won a series against the Horned Frogs.
