Moldauer Adds Another NCAA Weekly Honor

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnast and NCAA All-Around Champion Yul Moldauer capped off an incredible season with one last weekly award as he was named NCAA Gymnast of the Week, the College Gymnastics Association announced Wednesday.

This marks the fifth time Moldauer earned national-gymnast-of-the-week honors this season.

Moldauer was sensational at the NCAA Championships last Saturday, winning an NCAA-record four NCAA individual titles and earning All-America honors on five events and the all-around. He led the Sooners to their fourth consecutive national championship and 12th overall.

The junior saved his best performance for last, notching an NCAA season-high 87.298 all-around score and earning his second-career NCAA all-around title. Throughout the NCAA team final, the Arvada, Colo., native finished in the top-two on five events and the all-around.

Moldauer started the night on fire, locking up the NCAA floor championship with a season-high 15.166. He followed with an All-America effort on pommel horse, placing second with a 14.533. On still rings, Moldauer earned another second-place finish with a 14.433.

With OU trailing heading into the fourth rotation, the team needed big scores from its vault lineup. Moldauer answered with a championship vault, scoring a 14.900 as the Sooners put up a 72.566 to capture the lead. The captain wrapped up his fourth national title of the night with a 14.733 on parallel bars.

After adding four individual national titles, Moldauer is tied for most national championships of any gymnast in NCAA history with seven.

Moldauer continued to etch his name into Oklahoma's record books this season. He collected a team-leading 25 event titles and earned a team-record five MPSF Conference Championships earlier this month. In addition to his success in the NCAA, Moldauer won his second straight American Cup Championship in February, becoming the first gymnast to win in back-to-back years since former Sooner Jonathon Horton did so in 2006 and 2007.
