NORMAN –The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team has earned the nation's No. 1 overall seed heading into postseason competition for the fourth consecutive season, the NCAA announced Monday. The Sooners were tabbed as the top seed in the NCAA Minneapolis Regional, where they will face No. 12 Kentucky, No. 13 Denver, Minnesota, Iowa State and Iowa on Saturday, April 7.
OU, which holds a program and NCAA-record regional qualifying score (RQS) of 198.120, will aim for its ninth consecutive regional title and 15th straight NCAA Championships berth at regional competition. Last weekend, the Sooners captured their seventh consecutive Big 12 Championship with a score of 197.775. The Sooners will enter the regional with a 16-1 record.
The Sooners have faced two of the three teams this season as Big 12 foes Denver and Iowa State will join OU in Minneapolis. OU will face Kentucky in a regional for the second consecutive season.
In addition to qualifying teams, Oklahoma will face individual all-around competitors and event qualifiers from Air Force, Utah State, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Wisconsin-Stout and Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The top two finishing teams from each NCAA regional will advance to the 2018 NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. The meet is set for April 20-21 in Chaifetz Arena. Semifinal competition will take place on April 20 and the Super Six team finals are set for April 21.
The NCAA Minneapolis Regional is set to begin at 4 p.m. CT inside Maturi Pavilion. Tickets are available for purchase online.
