March 19, 2018 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – Oklahoma women's basketball signee Jessi Murcer has been named the 2017-18 Gatorade State Player of the Year, it was announced on Monday.

Murcer averaged 21.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while shooting nearly 62 percent from 3-point range as a senior at Westmoore High School (Moore, Okla.).

Murcer finished her career as Westmoore's all-time leading scorer with 2,065 career points. Her prep point total ranks 20th all-time in Oklahoma state history.

Murcer is the second straight OU signee to win Gatorade Player of the Year from Oklahoma joining Ana Llanusa (2016-17). Signee Taylor Robertson won Kansas' Gatorade Player of the Year award last season.

OU's six-member signing class has continued to bring in honors following the conclusion of their prep careers. Madi Williams will represent the Sooners at the 2018 McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic later this spring. The Sooners' signing class was ranked No. 9 by Prospect Nation and No. 17 by ESPN HoopGurlz.

The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track & field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport.
