NORMAN The Oklahoma women's tennis team is slated to open conference play at the Headington Family Tennis Center this weekend, beginning with West Virginia on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a clash with Iowa State Sunday at noon.

Oklahoma

The Sooners enter the weekend at 6-5 overall and ranked No. 50 in the latest ITA release. This week's ranking marked the team's first appearance in the ITA rankings this season.

In its last contest, then-unranked OU upset No. 40 NC State at the USTA National Campus in Orlando in a 4-3 thriller. After giving up the doubles point, the Sooners surged back in singles play. The match came down to court two, where sophomore Jasmine Asghar held strong and came out on top of a three-setter, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4, to clinch the win for Oklahoma.

Lily Miyazaki continues to lead OU from the top spot in singles. The senior is ranked No. 31 nationally, and owns a 6-3 record on the season, as well as a 2-1 mark against ranked opponents.

Fellow senior Christie Brigante has compiled a 6-3 record between courts two and three and is riding a six-match winning streak dating back to Feb. 10, when she clinched the Sooners' 4-3 win over Old Dominion. Malene Stripp is 6-2 on courts four, five and six.

In doubles action, Brigante and Asghar own a record of 4-2 from the No. 1 line. The Sooners have given up the doubles point in their last three matches, but have come back in singles to win two of those contests (USF on Feb. 23 and NC State on March 9).

West Virginia

The Mountaineers are 4-5 on the season and come into Friday's contest following a 6-1 loss at Maryland last weekend.

Lyn Yuen Choo owns a 5-3 record on court three, while Giovanna Caputo is also 5-3 from the No. 4, 5 and 6 lines. Christina Jordan has played at No. 1 singles all season, where she is 2-7.

In doubles, Jordan and Sofia Duran have compiled a 5-4 record in the top spot.

In the last meeting between the teams, the Sooners took down West Virginia, 4-0, in Morgantown in the final match of the 2017 regular season.

The Sooners have never lost to West Virginia, owning a clean slate of 6-0 since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 Conference in 2012.

Iowa State

Iowa State enters Sunday's matchup at 8-6 overall. In their last match, the Cyclones suffered a narrow loss at Wyoming, 4-3.

Maty Cancini leads Iowa State at No. 1 singles where she is 4-4. Annabella Bonadonna owns the most wins of any Mountaineer with a 10-3 record this spring on courts three, four, five and six.

In doubles Cancini and Regina Espindola are 9-5 in the top spot, and Bonadonna and Erin Freeman have put together a 7-3 slate from the No. 2 and 3 lines.

The teams last met in 2017, when OU swept the Cyclones, 4-0, in Ames. Brigante picked up OU's second shutout in that match, winning 6-0, 6-0, on court six.

OU owns the series with Iowa State, 40-1.
