November 11, 2018 | Wrestling

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Dom Demas captured the title at 141 pounds and the Oklahoma wrestling team finished fifth at the Journeyman MyHouse Collegiate Classic Sunday to continue its early season success.

Demas led the way for the Sooners with a 3-0 mark. The redshirt freshman's run included a 4-2 decision against Wyoming's Sam Turner and an 11-4 decision against Kyle Shoop of Lock Haven. Demas closed out the day by pinning Nate Limmex of Purdue in just 1:31, tallying his third pin of the season through just two weekends of competition.

Demas was awarded the Hammer Award as Outstanding Wrestler.

Jared Schieber also went 3-0 in his respective pool in the 157 pounds division. A redshirt senior, Schieber won all three of his bouts as decisions: 4-1 over Ithaca's Alec Corrao; 6-3 against Jakob Discher of Utah Valley; and 8-3 against Hunter Jones from West Virginia.

Three Sooners went 2-1 to finish second in their pools. At 149, Davion Jeffries picked up a tech fall win over Utah Valley's Matthew Ontiveros (20-3) and a 7-2 decision against Justin Oliver of NC State. Justin Thomas (157) collected two decisions over Matthew Zovistoski from Appalachian State, 8-2, and Utah Valley's Grant Lamont, 7-3.

Christian Moody (125) also had two decisions. The redshirt junior defeated Nic Aguilar (unattached) 3-2 to start the day, and followed that win up with a 5-2 victory over Wyoming's Cole Verner.

The Sooners return to the mat Nov. 30 – Dec. 1 for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
