Sooners Wrap Up Big 12 Match Play Tournament

HOCKLEY, Texas ā The Oklahoma men's golf team wrapped up the inaugural Big 12 Match Play Tournamet on Sunday, finishing the eventĀ by halving its match over Texas Tech. The three-day event was held at the par-71, 7,007-yard Club at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas.
The Big 12 is the first conference to create its own match play tournament, taking advantage of the format that is used to determine the NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The event was being played on three days consisting of pool play for five sessions (Friday through Sunday morning) followed by a championship round that took place on Sunday afternoon.
OU finished in a tie for seventh place at the event, halving its final match with Texas Tech. Four individual matches between the Sooners and Red Raiders were halved.
OU's Quade Cummins earned a 2&1 victory over Texas Tech's Adam Bloome. Riley Casey, Brad Dalke, Blaine Hale and Patrick Welch all halved their respective matches. Garett Reband dropped his final match of the weekend to Texas Tech's Thomas Allkins, 2&1.
The Sooners dropped a tight match during the final session of pool play on Sunday morning, falling to Texas, 3.5-2.5. OU picked up wins from Cummins and Reband in the morning session, while freshman Welch halved his match.
Cummins topped Texas' Spencer Soosman, 3&2, while Reband took down the Longhorns' Stephen Chervony with a 3&1 win.
OU wraps up their fall slate at the Ka'anapoli Classic in Ka'anapoli, Hawaii, which runs Nov. 2-4.
