NORMAN – Oklahoma guard Shaina Pellington was recognized as the Big 12's Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday.
Pellington averaged a team-high 21.0 points per game and posted a .650 field goal percentage in OU's two games against Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
Pellington scored a career-high 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting against the Cowgirls on Saturday, while tying her career high with six rebounds in nearly 40 minutes of action. The freshman fueled OU's comeback win at Kansas State last Wednesday, adding 16 points and recording a career-high six assists on the road against the Wildcats.
During the 2017-18 season, Pellington leads all Big 12 freshmen in scoring (12.7 points per game) and field goal percentage (.517). Pellington's .517 shooting percentage ranks second nationally among all Division I freshmen.
This marks the fourth time this season an OU freshman has been recognized by the Big 12. Mandy Simpson won Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 13, while Ana Llanusa was selected as the league's top freshman for the week of Dec. 19. Pellington earned the award for the first time this season on Jan. 2.
The Sooners return to action on Wednesday against Kansas at 6 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. Tickets are available here. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
