LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The second-seeded University of Oklahoma baseball team fell 11-0, to three-seed Xavier in Sunday's elimination contest at Jim Patterson Stadium in Louisville, Ky. The loss ends the Sooners' (35-24) 2017 season.

The Musketeers jumped all over OU early with an eight-run first inning. Sooner sophomore righty Kyle Tyler (0-3) was charged with seven of those runs, only one of which was earned, after recording just one out. The Oklahoma City native gave up just two singles, but three hit batters and a pair of infield errors extended the inning and allowed Xavier to pile on.

X added two more in the third with a two-out, two-run blast from three-hole man Rylan Bannon. It added its 11^th run in the sixth when Bannon walked and then came around to score on a hit and a fielder's choice.

The Sooners hit the ball hard all day and managed seven scattered hits, but were unable to push any runners across. Musketeer lefty starter Trent Astle (5-1) earned the win, throwing eight innings of shutout ball.

Senior third baseman Jack Flansburg (Orange, Calif.), sophomore left fielder Cade Harris (Leona, Texas) and sophomore center fielder Steele Walker (Prosper, Texas) all logged two-hit days for OU. Walker registered the Sooners' only extra-base effort of the day with a one-out, groundrule-double in the fourth. OU stranded nine runners on the day.

Oklahoma returned to the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2013 in the fourth year under head coach Pete Hughes. The Sooners, who finished third place in the Big 12, had an improvement of five wins over the 2016 season.
