NORMAN – The No. 19 University of Oklahoma baseball team suffered a 5-2 loss to Kansas in front of 1,114 at L. Dale Mitchell Park on Saturday afternoon. The Sooners losing streak moved to seven, the longest since 2014, as they dropped to 27-15 overall and 5-6 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks improved to 19-19 and 8-6.

Oklahoma and Kansas traded zeroes through the first five innings, but it was the Sooners that blinked first in the sixth. The Jayhawks loaded the bases with nobody out against OU sophomore right-hander Kyle Tyler (Oklahoma City). A bases-loaded walk brought in the first run of the game before the Sooners went to the bullpen. Kansas left fielder Devin Foyle added to the lead with a two-run double and designated hitter Jaxx Goshans produced a RBI-single.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Oklahoma responded with two runs on three hits. Senior catcher Renae Martinez (San Pedro, Calif.) deposited his second hit of the day into right to put runners on the corners with two gone. Sophomore center fielder Steele Walker (Prosper, Texas) and senior first baseman Austin O'Brien (Owasso, Okla.) followed with back-to-back two-out, RBI-singles.

Outside of the sixth, KU right-hander Jackson Goddard (4-2) was excellent in a seven-inning win. He limited the Sooners to the two runs on six hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Right-hander Stephen Villines came on for the ninth to earn his 11^th save of the season.

For Oklahoma, Tyler (0-1) took the first loss of his career in his first Big 12 start. After five-scoreless, he ended up going five-plus, as he did not record an out in the sixth, with four runs against him on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Game three of the series is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday with sophomore right-hander Dylan Grove (Moore, Okla.) getting the ball for the Sooners.
