WACO, Texas – The No. 10 University of Oklahoma baseball team lost to No. 14 Baylor, 7-0, at Baylor Ballpark Saturday afternoon to even its Big 12-opening series. The Sooners' record moved to 22-5 overall and 1-1 in conference as the Bears improved to 18-5 and 2-3.

Oklahoma threatened first in the top of the third with a leadoff infield-single from freshman shortstop Brandon Zaragoza (Moore, Okla.), who stole second. A walk to sophomore third baseman Cade Harris (Leona, Texas) then walked to put two on. Bunting for a hit with one down, senior center fielder Ben Hollas (Longview, Texas) was able to get both into scoring position. Another walk loaded the bases before Baylor right-hander Montana Parsons got a strikeout to leave them that way.

The Bears got their bats going in the bottom half after center fielder Levi Gilcrease started the inning with a leadoff-walk. He was sacrificed to second and scored on a double to right-center by left fielder T.J. Raguse, who would come in on a sacrifice-fly by designated hitter Matt Menard.

Baylor tacked on two more in the fourth. First baseman Aaron Dodson reached on a leadoff-single and shortstop Tucker Cascadden singled with one down to put runners on the corners. Dodson scored on a failed pickoff attempt and Cascadden came in on a Raguse RBI-single.

The Sooners got the leadoff man on in both the fourth, sixth and ninth innings with base hits from sophomore first baseman Brylie Ware (Sedgwick, Kan.), Harris and Ware again, but both were eliminated on groundball-double plays. Ware finished the game 2-for-4.

Junior right-hander Devon Perez (Ashburn, Va.) got off to a great start on the hill for Oklahoma by striking out five of the first six batters faced. Over five innings of work, Perez (4-1) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.

Parson (2-1) threw seven-shutout innings for the Bears. He struck four, walked two and allowed just five hits. Raguse was the only BU player to record two hits in the game in a 2-for-5 effort.

The rubber-match between Oklahoma and Baylor is set for 12:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
