REGULAR SEASON FINALE
In its final meet before the postseason, the No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will look to close its regular season on a strong note when it heads to Berkeley, Calif., to face No. 17 California. The meet is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on Sunday inside Haas Pavilion and will air on Pac-12 Network. The Sooners will be in pursuit of their fifth undefeated regular season under 11th-year head coach K.J. Kindler (2008, 2010, 2011, 2015). Dating back to the 2016 season, the Sooners have picked up 52 straight wins, including 39 consecutive victories on the road.
PERFECTION
In 2017, four Sooners have combined to record eight 10.0s, the most individual perfect marks in program history, surpassing four in 2015. OU is the nation's only team this season to own 10.0 routines on all four events, marking the second time in school history that the Sooners have earned 10.0s on all four apparatuses in a single season (2015). Chayse Capps (BB), Nicole Lehrmann (UB), Maggie Nichols (VT, UB, BB [twice] and FX) and McKenzie Wofford (UB) have all achieved perfection this season.
TOP TOTALS
The Sooners have the most top-10 scores of any team in 2017. Five of OU's scores rank in the top 10 nationally, including three in the top five. The Sooners have scored at least 198 four times this season, with those marks checking in first (198.350, GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational), second (198.175, at TWU), fifth (198.075, Perfect 10 Challenge) and sixth (198.025, vs. UCLA). OU's four scores of at least 198 tie the most in a single season in program history (2014).
ROAD WARRIORS
In recent seasons, OU has proven itself to be as successful away from Norman as at home. The 2017 road slate has been no exception as the Sooners are averaging a nation-leading 197.921 away score for six meets. At home, OU averaged a 197.781 in its four competitions. The Sooners' top three scores have all come on the road, and OU has posted the highest road average in the nation in each of the last three seasons.
DEPTH DISPLAYED
OU has showcased the depth it has on its roster, with 14 Sooners appearing in at least one lineup or performing an exhibition routine. Seniors Chayse Capps (AA), Charity Jones (VT, BB, FX), Kara Lovan (FX), Nicole Turner (FX) and McKenzie Wofford (UB), juniors Natalie Brown (BB, FX), Stefani Catour (UB, BB), Samantha Craus (UB) and AJ Jackson (VT, BB, FX), sophomores Brenna Dowell (VT, UB, FX), Nicole Lehrmann (UB, BB) and Alex Marks (VT) and freshmen Jade Degouveia and Maggie Nichols (AA) have all competed at least once. Degouveia (FX), Jackson (BB), Lehrmann (VT), Craus (UB), Lovan (BB), Turner (FX) and Wofford (BB) have also all appeared in exhibition.
TAKE ON THE TOP
California represents the 11th OU opponent ranked in the top 20 at the time of competition, with six of those sitting in the top 10. Overall, 11 of OU's regular-season opponents entered the season ranked according to the NACGC/W Coaches Poll, including seven squads listed in the top 10 nationally. RoadtoNationals.com rated the schedule as the seventh-toughest in the nation to begin the season.
SWAGGIE MAGGIE
Oklahoma freshman Maggie Nichols has dazzled thus far on the collegiate gymnastics scene. Below are some of her accomplishments so far in 2017.
• Set OU's all-around program record with a huge 39.925 at the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational on Feb. 17 with a 10.0 on beam and a trio of 9.975s on vault, bars and floor. The mark bested her own record of 39.875, recorded at West Virginia on Jan. 21. According to records from RoadtoNationals.com dating back to 1998, her 39.925 is the best score by a freshman. It is also the second-highest score since 1998 (39.975 - Mohini Bhardwaj, UCLA, 2001).
• Has scored five 10.0s (vault, bars, beam [twice], floor) this season, completing her “GymSlam” with a perfect score on bars at Michigan on March 4. She is the ninth collegiate gymnast to post a 10.0 on all four events and first since Florida's Bridget Sloan accomplished the feat in 2015.
• With five 10.0s, Nichols is tied with Haley Scaman for the most perfect scores in an OU career. Scaman, who was at OU from 2013-16, had three on floor and two on vault.
• Recorded the first 10.0 of her career on vault at WVU. The perfect score was the second by a true freshman on any event in OU history, joining teammate Brenna Dowell (bars, 2014).
• Impressed in her debut against Alabama on Jan. 6, scoring a 39.725, the highest mark by a freshman in her first meet according to records from RoadtoNationals.com dating back to 1998.
