NORMAN -- No. 18 Oklahoma defeated Kansas, 89-52, on Wednesday for its eighth-straight home win at Lloyd Noble Center. OU shot a season-high 59.2 percent from the field to power the Sooners' offense to the 37-point win.
The Sooners (17-6, 8-3 Big 12) and Jayhawks (7-15, 1-10 Big 12) played a 10:30 a.m. game for OU's third annual Sooner Jr. Fan Field Trip Day. OU welcomed over 8,000 third through sixth graders from across the state of Oklahoma for an educational day complete with exposure to Division I women's basketball.
Four Sooner starters scored in double figures, led by senior guard Maddie Manning with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting (3-of-3 from 3-point range). Manning added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in her 29 minutes of action. Her eight made field goals tied a career high.
Senior guard Peyton Little tallied 16 points with four boards. Junior guard Gabbi Ortiz and senior guard Gioya Carter scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Freshman center Nancy Mulkey blocked a career-high eight shots to fuel the Sooner defense to a season-high 13 blocks. Mulkey's eight blocks were the fourth-most in Oklahoma history and the most since Nicole Griffin swatted nine shots in 2012.
OU's 13 blocks are tied for the second-most by a Big 12 team this season and are also tied for 10th-most by a Division I team in a game this year.
Oklahoma started the morning contest with a 15-2 run and outscored the Jayhawks, 24-13, in the opening quarter. The Sooners shot 10-for-12 (.833) in the first quarter while Kansas went 5-of-24 (.208) from the field.
OU continued its hot start in the second quarter and built a 47-28 advantage heading into halftime. The Sooners finished the half shooting 19-of-26 (.731) – their best shooting performance in any half this season.
The Sooners continued to roll in the second half, outpacing Kansas 24-13 in the third quarter and 18-11 in the fourth. The 37-point win was Oklahoma's largest margin of victory against the Jayhawks and its biggest win in a Big 12 contest since Jan. 20, 2016 against Texas Tech (92-53). OU's 89 points are the most it has scored against KU in the Big 12 era.
During its eight-game home winning streak, the Sooners have averaged 81.3 points per game and outscored their opponents by an average margin of 18.6. Oklahoma is 12-1 inside LNC this season.
The Sooners return to the court for its second Bedlam matchup of the season on Saturday, Feb. 4 in Stillwater. OU won the previous meeting with OSU, 68-62, in Norman on Jan. 22.
