NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma baseball and softball programs will team up to host a Halloween Game at Marita Hynes Field on Wednesday, October 25. The two Sooner programs launched a fundraising campaign with the Vs. Cancer Foundation on Friday, September 29 to support The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.

The game will start at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30. Admission is free and all fans are encouraged to attend in costume. Kids attending the game in costume will have the opportunity to trick-or-treat at the field and meet the OU student-athletes from both teams. All children in attendance will be welcomed on to the field for a post-game group photo opportunity. Additionally, Midway Deli and Meating Place food trucks will be on hand.

Through Monday evening, the baseball and softball teams had combined to raise over $10,000 in online donations. Additional donations can be made at the gate or online through the baseball and softball pages on SoonerSports.com.

The game will be a five-inning contest between baseball and softball followed by a home run derby. Five players from each team will get 10 swings. For each home run hit, the Landers Auto Group will donate $50 to OU Children's.

The Children's Hospital VOLUNTEERS charity has been the local recipient of OU baseball's “Shave for the Brave” campaign over the last three years, which yielded over $80,000 in funds. Half of those donations went to Vs. Cancer's national foundation for cancer research, while the other half went to benefit OU Children's. The funds were utilized to enhance the environment of OU Children's cancer and blood disorders unit with new game systems, toys and artwork to help kids feel more at home while receiving treatment at the hospital. This year, all proceeds will remain local to benefit OU Children's, which is seeking funds to enhance its facility therapy dog program; Paws for Purpose.

The fundraising campaign launched in conjunction with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and culminates with the inter-squad scrimmage, which will once again be played in costume, between the two programs the week leading into Halloween. The game originated in 2013 at baseball's L. Dale Mitchell Park and evolved with the inclusion of OU softball, which hosted the game in 2015. Additional information regarding the Vs. Cancer Foundation and The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center and direct links on how to donate are available at SoonerSports.com.
