Oklahoma women's basketball's Maddie Manning and Vionise Pierre-Louis earned honorable mention selections to the Preseason All-Big 12 Women's Basketball Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
The preseason honors were chosen by conference head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Manning is OU's top returning scorer after averaging 12.6 points per contest a year ago. The Ankeny, Iowa, native shot .424 from the field and .397 from 3-point range during the 2016-17 season. Manning tied for the lead in the Big 12 with 2.0 steals per game and averaged 5.4 rebounds per contest last season.
For the second straight season, Pierre-Louis earned preseason honors as an honorable mention selection. As a junior, Pierre-Louis averaged 11.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per contest, while shooting .524 from the floor.
The Sooners held their first official practice of the 2017-18 season Monday, a 90-minute session inside Lloyd Noble Center.
With 32 days remaning before the Sooners open the regular season, OU used Monday's first practice session to build off the foundation set from its preseason workouts.
"I loved the energy," senior guard LaNesia Williams said after the first practice. "Getting out here with our underclassmen and pushing them was great. I love our chemistry. We're a smaller team, but we've got a great group that's ready to battle every night."
Head coach Sherri Coale, who begins her 22nd season at OU, returns three starters from last year's team that appeared in the program's 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament. Monday's practice also was the first official practice for the freshmen trio of Ana Llanusa, Shaina Pellington and Mandy Simpson.
"It was a great first day, an intense 90 minutes," OU head coach Sherri Coale said. "Overall, I thought the intesity was good, the communication was good and the competition was really high."
