OU?s Big 12 Women?s Hoops Schedule Released

NORMAN – The Big 12 Conference announced its women's basketball schedule on Thursday, completing the University of Oklahoma's 2016-17 slate. The Sooners will open league play on Dec. 29 at Allen Fieldhouse against Kansas.

The Sooners will return to the Lloyd Noble Center for their Big 12 home opener with a New Year's Day matchup against TCU. Head coach Sherri Coale's squad will play its remaining eight home conference games Jan. 4 vs. Kansas State, Jan. 14 vs. Texas Tech, Jan. 22 vs. Oklahoma State, Jan. 25 vs. Iowa State, Feb. 1 vs. Kansas, Feb. 7 vs. West Virginia, Feb. 18 vs. Texas and Feb. 27 vs. Baylor.

OU will play its remaining eight road conference games Jan. 8 at West Virginia, Jan. 11 at Iowa State, Jan. 17 at Texas, Jan. 29 at Baylor, Feb. 4 at Oklahoma State, Feb. 11 at Texas Tech, Feb. 21 at Kansas State and Feb. 25 at TCU.

The conference schedule features a full double-round robin format for the sixth consecutive season. Last year, the league sent six teams to the NCAA Tournament.

Oklahoma City and the Chesapeake Energy Arena will host the 2017 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, March 3-6 (Friday-Monday). This marks the second consecutive year and fifth time overall that the Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship will be played in Oklahoma City, where the tournament will remain through 2019.

The Big 12 Conference will also serve as host of the 2017 Women's Final Four at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 31, with the national championship game to be played on Sunday, April 2.

The Sooners return four starters and 12 letterwinners, including 2016 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year Vionise Pierre-Louis, from last season's NCAA Tournament squad. OU brings back 82 percent of its scoring, 82 percent of its rebounding and 94 percent of its assists from last season's team that finished with a 22-11 overall record. Oklahoma appeared in its 17th straight NCAA Tournament last season, a run that ranks as the fifth-longest active streak in Division I.
