NORMAN - The Oklahoma women's basketball team hosted a 90-minute open practice on Saturday for fans at Lloyd Noble Center. OU leaves for its nine-day foreign tour to Spain on Wednesday.
Fans were given their first opportunity to see the 2016-17 squad during the event. The Sooners worked through various drills, before scrimmaging for the final 20 minutes of practice. The team also signed autographs for fans to wrap up the day.
The Sooners will depart Norman on Wednesday morning and fly to Atlanta. After a layover, OU will fly to Madrid and land Thursday morning and begin adjusting to the seven-hour time difference.
After a full day of sightseeing, OU's first game will take place on Friday, Aug. 12 against Olimpico 64 in Madrid. After touring Toledo on Saturday, Aug. 13, the Sooners will travel to Valencia on Sunday, Aug. 14 and compete in their second game of the trip on Monday, Aug. 15 against Combinado Valenciano.
OU will close out play on Wednesday, Aug. 17 against the Barcelona Region All-Stars. The Sooners will enjoy a final on Thursday, Aug. 18 and return home on Friday, Aug. 19.
The Sooners will visit Cabaynal Beach, Camp Nou Stadium, Barcelona's Olympic Stadium, the Gothic Quarter, Sagrada Familia and Montjuic Hill while in Spain.
The foreign trip will allow OU's 12 returners and three newcomers to gel on the floor. OU will complete its NCAA-mandated 10 practice sessions on Tuesday morning before flying overseas.
Oklahoma is coming of a 22-11 season and its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament apperance under head coach Sherri Coale.
