NORMAN – With the first week of classes wrapping up at the University of Oklahoma, the OU women's basketball team enjoyed the chance to reconnect with fans Thursday for its annual Fast Break Club Ice Cream Social.
The event concludes a busy week for the Sooners which included the start of class Monday and team meetings after their nine-day foreign tour in Spain.
Ice cream, cookies, cakes and brownies filled the tables at Norman's Reeves Park, all prepared by members of the Fast Break Club.
For the first time at the annual event, fans competed in a baking competiton with the top-three finishers earning a trophy for best dessert.
Head coach Sherri Coale and the Sooners took time to mingle with fans throughout the evening as well taking time to answer questions about the upcoming season. Fans also had their first chance to meet newcomers Chelsea Dungee and Nancy Mulkey.
"We couldn't accomplish many of the things we strive to do without the support of our Fast Break Club," Coale said addressing the crowd of supporters. "This group of players has spent more time in the gym that any team we've had in a decade. I really like the work they put in during the offseason. We're glad to be back after our trip to Spain, but the nine days overseas and the extra 10 practices we had before we left will really pay dividends for us as we begin to prep for a new season."
Players, coaches and staff spent nearly two hours interacting with fans and supporters Thursday night. Coale also updated supporters on the offseason, introduced the 2016-17 roster to fans while each player discussed their favorite memory in spain.
