Sooners Drop Round Two of Bedlam, 4-1

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma women's tennis team fell to No. 14 Oklahoma State, 4-1, at Headington Family Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Sooners (7-10, 2-3 Big 12) began the day by dropping both doubles matches. Sophomores Christiana Brigante and Malene Stripp fell first to No. 41 Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari, 6-1, on at No. 2. The Sooners battled back on court one as senior Emma Devine and sophomore Lily Miyazaki took the match, 6-3, over OSU's 30th-ranked Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez.

The doubles point came down to the No. 3 line. OU's duo of sophomore Simran Sethi and junior Mimi Fotopoulos dropped its early lead, and the match, 6-4, to OSU's No. 50 Vladica Babic and Katarina Adamovic.

The Cowgirls (17-3, 5-0 Big 12) took the first singles match of the afternoon when Stresnakova topped OU's Sethi 6-1, 6-1, on court four. The Sooners cut the deficit down to 2-1 as Stripp defeated Maria Alvarez, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.

Oklahoma State extended its lead when Tur Mari took down OU's Brigante, 6-3, 7-5, at the No. 5 line.

The Cowgirls clinched the match with a victory at the No. 3 line. OSU's Laurente won, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), over the Sooners' Fotopoulos.

Head coach Dave Mullins is pleased with the progress he's seen.

"I'm really happy with today. The team's done an outstanding job these last three matches," Mullins said. "I'm really happy with the growth and improvement I've seen. Doubles is much better. Our support and competitiveness is much better. If we keep doing these things, we'll have a win over a top team heading into the summer."

The Sooners are back in action next Friday as they host TCU.
