NORMAN – No. 14/12 Oklahoma (27-7) scored seven runs over the first two innings en route to a 10-1, five-inning victory over Wichita State (20-14) Wednesday night at Marita Hynes Field. It was the team's 11th run-rule win of the season.

The seven runs scored over the first two innings marked OU's second-best start of the year behind an eight-run first inning against Western Michigan on Feb. 20. In fact, Oklahoma is outscoring teams 84-15 in the first two innings combined this season.

Ten different Sooners had a hit Wednesday, and the team's first five hitters in the lineup combined to go 9-13 (.692) at the plate with six runs scored and nine runs driven in. Freshmen Sydney Romero, Shay Knighten and Caleigh Clifton all had two hits, as did senior Kady Self.

Sophomore Paige Parker limited a potent Shockers lineup to just two hits and no runs over 4.0 innings. She struck out four and walked one to improve her record to 14-3 on the season.

The win continues OU's dominance over WSU. Oklahoma has now won 32 straight in the series, its longest active winning streak against another program. OU has not lost to WSU since 1990 and has held Wichita State to two runs or less in each of those 32 games.

All 32 wins have come under Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso. Her 32-0 mark against the Shockers is her best without a loss against another school.

Oklahoma jumped all over Wichita State in the first as five of the first six hitters recorded a hit in a three-run inning.

After freshman Sydney Romero reached on an infield single to shortstop, fellow freshman Shay Knighten blasted a two-run homer through a strong breeze out of the stadium to left field. It was her team-leading eighth home run of the season.

Clifton kept the inning going as she double and stole third before Self brought her in with a bunt single.

OU tacked on four more runs in the second.

Sophomore Kelsey Arnold singled and stole second. After a walk to senior Erin Miller, Romero singled off the wall in center field to load the bases. Knighten groundout to second in the next at-bat, but it brought in Arnold to make it 4-0.

Clifton then cleared the bases with a two-run triple to right center. It was her third triple of the season, tying Romero and Miller for the team lead. Of Clifton's 23 hits this year, 12 have gone for extra bases (eight doubles, three triples, one home run). She then scored on a single to right field by Self.

After sophomore Lea Wodach singled to lead off the third, freshman Raegan Rogers entered as a pinch runner. She stole second and moved to third on an error. Senior Paris Townsend pinch hit next for Arnold and singled. Arnold re-entered to run at first and scored along with Rogers when Miller doubled to left center.

OU's 10th and final run came in the fourth when junior Macey Hatfield hit a pinch-hit, solo home run to left field. It was her second of the season and the sixth of her career. Four of her six career homers have come as a pinch hitter.

Wichita State's lone run came on a solo homer by Laurie Anne Derrico in the top of the fifth off OU reliever Jayden Chestnut.

The Sooners return to Big 12 play this weekend with a key showdown at No. 19/18 Baylor. The Bears are undefeated and tied for first in the conference at 5-0, while the Sooners are in third place at 3-1. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT on Fox Sports Southwest.
